Zones and Sectors

Sectors are the external factors that are considered during Permaculture design, such as wind, rain, pollution, sun, slope, noise, buildings, etc. They make a difference to our lives and, if their energies are harnessed in certain ways, they can give many benefits.
Zones use the concept of energy flows, with us as the source. This makes our main areas of use (our home, shed or office, depending on where we spend most of our time) as Zone 0, while the other Zones take Sectors into consideration. This helps determine where things like the vegetable garden, orchard, animals, forest, water tanks, dams and so on will be placed, in accordance with our energy flows - how regularly we are going to use or pass through the space.
